CAPRI-SUN Cadenza – animated social media spot
Flipping the screen – portrait instead of wide screen
When producing a clip for social media, you have to take into account that nowadays most likely the clip will be watched on a mobile phone. Because there is way less space in width, you better adjust your stage and animation accordingly.
My client asked me to help produce the commercial clip, while Sebastiao Lopez was responsible for the camera and character animations. The characters were already rigged and ready to go, my main assignment, apart from combining all the different shots and ensuring the established look of the brand, was to build the environment, namely the big house, the action takes place in.
I was given a rough sketch of the pursued style of the building, which should loosely be reminiscent of the apartment houses you often can find in Latin-American cities, since the theme of the spot was “dia de los muertos“.
The challenge we faced during production was that because the client wanted to try out different versions of the animation – especially the downward fall of the “cat”- character, we didn’t exactly knew how high the house would actually have to be to accommodate for the time needed. I decided, it would be best to keep everything as modular as possible and used mainly instanced geometry and scripting to enable the animation artist to dynamically adjust the number of different floors and therefore the total height of the building.
In hindsight a hassle well worth the effort, resulting in a fun little clip!
