BORA loft kitchen – architectural visualization
Building a luxurious country-style kitchen
While the product and star of the clip – a BORA cooker – was shot in live action to demonstrate the innovative exhausting installation build directly into the Ceran cooktop, the complete surroundings had to be CGI. The client envisioned a lofty country-style kitchen, furnished with their own luxurious product line.
I was responsible for the texturing, shading and lighting of the 3D model of the building itself, the kitchen furniture, as well as the production of the various assets.
Unfortunately, the client realized at a late stage of production, that they were not happy with the filmed camera sequence after all and a re-shoot was out of the question budget-wise. They decided against releasing the final animation in the end and I am only able to show some stills created during production because of this.

Necessary groundwork
Most of the furniture and the building itself was provided as 3d-data, because the client had ordered a similar production for a print campaign with a different studio in the past.
I had to invest a lot of time into cleaning the topology, remodeling missing parts and unwrapping UV coordinates where necessary though. As animation is just way more unforgiving than producing CGI for still images, the data first had to get to the standard needed for the task.
Saving time with online assets
While some of the clutter and little things, that populate the kitchen space, I modeled and textured myself, most of the assets were taken out of my own library build over the years or the kit-bash collection of the studio I had the contract with to meet the expectations of the client in the allotted time.
We also heavily relied on online platforms like turbosquid.com to be able to quickly present assets that were missing in our library, but the client wanted to see in his kitchen nonetheless.

All these little things…
As these bought models have the advantage of being rather economical compared to the amount it would cost to create all of them from scratch, they unfortunately rarely are offered in exactly the combination of 3d software package and renderer used. Consequently, you still have to accommodate for the time needed to create the final render specific shaders of the models.
…expand the library
As the marketing department of the client allowed themselves to order multiple different versions of asset combinations, that didn’t make it in the final image at all, my own kit-bash library now contains several new models, among them a nice teapot made of glass and a lot of 3d-scanned cookies and other pastries. 😀
